Days and Hours Open

Banner House Museum will be open from June 11, 2016 until October 1, 2016 Regular Hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM Final daily tour begins at 2:30 PM.

Children: 6-12 $1
Children: under 6 free
Patrons: free


Parking is available in the adjacent parking lot of the Lees-McRae College athletic facilities, as available. Parking is also available at the Mill Pond.


The ground floor is accessible to wheelchairs. Tours may be altered to accommodate those who are unable to stand for long periods.

Getting Here

7990 Hickory Nut Gap Road, Banner Elk, NC 28604


From the Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce:
follow NC 184 south for approximately one mile and turn right on Hickory Nut Gap Road. After you cross the bridge, you will see the museum on your left.

From the Avery County Chamber of Commerce:
take NC 184 north for four miles. Turn left on Hickory Nut Gap Road. After you cross the bridge, you will see the museum on your left.

Walking on the Banner Elk Greenway from Banner Elk's Tate-Evans Park:
follow the greenway through the park and over the bridge towards Shawneehaw Avenue/Highway 184. Cross the street and continue on the greenway up the stairs to the footbridge and follow along Shawneehaw Avenue/Highway 184 past the Mill Pond. Turn right onto Hickory Nut Gap Road and you will see the museum on your left.
